One Year Old Gift Guide
Buying gifts for a one-year-old can be confusing. You could make this the Best Birthday Ever by just giving them an empty box with some paper to rip. For their parents’ benefit, you might want to try something a little more thoughtful. These toys help your favorite one-year-old conquer all the developmental milestones on their way to two, but no one will be surprised if the baby seems more interested in the packaging.

Red Footie Pajamas
Adults can wear footie pajamas but I don’t recommend it. Little kids, however, have free reign.

Miss Natalie’s Growth Chart
When we moved a few months ago, the saddest thing was leaving behind the door frame where we’d tracked our kid’s growth for the last 8 years.
This unique growth chart is made from simple materials and will look great in your kid’s room. When you move, you can take it with you.

Remote Control
For this to work, you’ll need to convince the baby that it actually controls the TV, at least some of the time. Then maybe she’ll give you back your cell phone.

Stacking Cups
My kids loved these stacking cups as babies. We used them in the bathtub to play with water and rinse shampoo out of their hair, we hid small things under them and played peek a boo, and, after they’d been through the dishwasher, we doled out snacks in them. I’m not sure we ever got around to just stacking them.

Rainbow Nesting Tunnel
This toy gives your toddler lots of options. Line them up to make a tunnel, or make them a cave for toy animals, or a bridge over imagined rivers, or maybe a see saw for a doll.

Musical Band
My family has a longstanding agreement not to buy each other’s kids drum sets or accordions. Of course, we haven’t exactly produced a crop of musicians. Still, if you give this as a gift, be prepared for paybacks.

You just found great-grandma’s Irish lace tablecloth draped over a bush in the backyard. Time for some new fort-building materials. And perhaps a lock on the linen closet.
