Love You Forever

This is the book I always give new parents. Robert Munsch wrote many of my favorite kids’ books, but this one makes my breath catch. It’s a hilarious, poignant story about a mother who sings to her baby boy every night: “I’ll love you forever / I’ll like you for always / As long as I’m living / My baby you’ll be.” It’s also available in Spanish and French, which is sweet if you know parents who plan to raise bilingual children. Please go read it, you will like it.

Bed Bed Bed

Bed Bed Bed is a genius children’s book that comes with a CD by They Might Be Giants. You can play the CD and sing along to the quirky lyrics written in the book. My favorite song is about a kitten who wants to make Valentines for the whole world. He sings, “I’m sittin’ in my window, with my kitten arms akimbo. My paws are tired from this Valentine’s work.” Kids love the darn thing. Fortunately, unlike many things kids love, it doesn’t make you want to bang your head against something solid. When you finish, and your little buddy whispers, “Again!” you’ll want to oblige.
